Die Skulpturen und Objekte von Bernhard Dürig orientieren sich an den gewachsenen Formen der Natur. Die Bionik ist ein weiteres Gebiet, welches ihn zu seinen Arbeiten inspiriert. Die Schnittstelle von Biologie und Technik setzt er in eine eigene Formensprache um. Weiter ist auch die menschliche Figur Teil seines Schaffens.

Der Waldkirschbaum ist Dürigs bevorzugte Holzart. Mit der Kettensäge werden die groben Formen aus dem Rundholz herausgearbeitet, um anschliessend mit Schlegel, Meissel,

Raspeln, Feilen und Ziehklingen fertig geformt zu werden. Die gespannten Bögen und Flächen erhalten so ihre Kraft und Leichtigkeit. Durch die langsame kontrollierte Trocknung werden Spannungsrisse vermieden. Der braunrote Farbton und die feine Maserierung des Holzes treten nach dem Ölen der Oberflächen nun hervor.

Les sculptures et objets de Bernhard Dürig s’inspirent des formes naturelles issues de la croissance organique. La bionique constitue un autre domaine qui nourrit son travail. Il traduit l’interface entre biologie et technique en un langage formel qui lui est propre. Par ailleurs, la figure humaine fait également partie de sa création.

Le merisier sauvage est l’essence de bois privilégiée par Dürig. Les formes grossières sont d’abord dégagées du tronc à la tronçonneuse, puis affinées à l’aide de maillet, ciseau, râpes, limes et racloirs. Les arcs tendus et les surfaces obtiennent ainsi leur force et leur légèreté. Grâce à un séchage lent et contrôlé, les fissures de tension sont évitées. La teinte brun-rouge et le veinage fin du bois apparaissent ensuite après l’huilage des surfaces.

Description

The sculptures and objects of Bernhard Dürig are inspired by the organically grown forms of nature. Bionics is another field that influences his work. He translates the interface between biology and technology into a distinctive visual language. The human figure is also an integral part of his artistic practice.

Wild cherry wood is Dürig’s preferred material. The rough forms are first shaped out of the log using a chainsaw, and then refined with a mallet, chisel, rasps, files, and scrapers. In this way, the taut curves and surfaces gain both strength and lightness. Through slow, controlled drying, tension cracks are avoided. The reddish-brown color and the fine grain of the wood are then revealed after the surfaces are oiled.
