Our governing body, the Swiss Foundation for Woodcarving, has been able to extend the cantonal cultural subsidy for the period 2025-2028. As an important cultural institution, the foundation relies on public support and can therefore effectively continue its important work for woodcarving, which is at home in Brienz. We look forward to the essential planning stability for the coming years!...

Does a QR code work when it is carved into wood? The local artist Alice Gafner investigated this exciting question and can happily say: yes, it works! Her profession is carving a subject into a wooden panel, which is then used as a negative template for printing on paper. She is a wood engraver....
From 2 - 6 July, the Brienz lake promenade, the ‘Quai’, will be transformed into an artistic site - not only will nature with Lake Brienz and mountain ranges be celebrated from its most beautiful side. You absolutely have to see what the Swiss and international wood sculptors present in terms of imagination and art/craftsmanship!...
... so true! We can't imagine our beautiful countryside without the heart-warming wooden chalets, which simply invite you to take a closer look, marvel at them and (if possible) visit them. Model chalets in all sizes and different designs await you in our museum - come and see!...
Time and again, the museum foundation receives valuable donations - thank you very much! Just recently, for example, the ‘Freezing Girl’, a moving sculpture created by Carl Binder at the beginning of the 20th century from pear wood, 43 cm high. It is described as ‘impressive!’ because it triggers genuine emotions of helplessness and compassion. The foundation also has the corresponding plaster figure....
What fascinates visitors from all over the world, especially here in the Bernese Oberland, are the villages and their beautiful houses. The chalets, some of which are richly decorated, go straight to the heart. Our special exhibition 2024 shows what the architectural style is all about and why chalets trigger longings and also travel the world in large numbers as souvenirs....
